Korea Travel Picks: Gurye and the Cornelian Cherry Flowers

Korea Travel Picks: Gurye and the Cornelian Cherry Flowers https://korean.visitkorea.or.kr/kfes/detail/fstvlDetail.do?fstvlCntntsId=05b53e45-cc6e-4309-ae29-2cb2ad710910#none The Cornelian cherry blossom (sansuyu) is known as the flower that heralds the arrival of spring before any other. Its flower language is said to symbolize "eternal and immortal love."Even on the mountain slopes where the chill of winter still lingers, sansuyu boldly bursts into bright yellow blossoms, calling spring to come. Located in Sandong-myeon, Gurye County, Jeollanam-do, "Sansuyu Village" is home to the largest colony of Cornelian cherry trees in Korea, accounting for about 70% of the country's sansuyu trees. Every March, nearly one million visitors come to see Gurye painted in yellow. Since the flowers can only be seen until early April, this week might be your last chance to catch the stunning display this year. https://korean.visitkorea.or.kr/kfes/detail/fstvlDetail.do?fstvlCntntsId=05b53e45-cc6e-4309-ae29-2cb2ad710910#none Centered around Seongsamjae Pass, Mount Manbokdae rises to the left and Chailbong Peak towers to the right, standing guard over Gurye with their majestic presence. In Sandong-myeon, Gurye, a series of walking trails called "Sansuyu Paths" have been created, stretching across five courses and totaling about 12.4 kilometers. Among them, Course 1 is especially recommended. It’s an easy 3.6 km walk, and you can also explore sub-courses like "Flower Wall Path" (Course 1-1) and "Flower Road" (Course 1-2) along the way. https://www.dailysportshankook.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=344334 At Sansuyu Love Park, themed around the flower's meaning of "eternal love," you can stroll through gardens and gaze down from a hilltop at villages blanketed in golden blossoms.Don't miss Bangok Village, which embraces spring earlier than anywhere else. The village transforms into a palace of flowers when the sansuyu trees bloom. https://www.namdonews.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=356375 If you walk a little further, you’ll reach Gyecheok Village near Course 5, where you can find the oldest Cornelian cherry tree in Korea - known as the "Grandmother Tree" which is over 1,000 years old. According to legend, a young woman who married from Shandong Province in China brought a sapling with her, gifted by her mother so she would never forget her homeland. She planted it here, and from that one tree, Gurye’s vast fields of sansuyu have flourished. Again, the blossoms are expected to last only until early April, so if you’re planning to visit Gurye’s sansuyu fields, this week might be your best timing for this year. #구례 #산수유 #Gurye #Sansuyu #SpringFlowers #KoreaTravel #CornelianCherryBlossom #SpringTrip #봄꽃여행 #지리산 #FlowerFestival All rights reserved Stay14 Bespoke
