It features works by 25 influential artists in Korean art, including Koo Bohnchang, Kwon Jin-kyu, Na Hye-sok, and Lee Jung-seob, and displays over 160 works including paintings, sculptures, and drawings. The first room, "Our Land, Songs of the People," showcases works that express the impact of foreign culture on Korea and how it was expressed through local themes and styles. The second room, "Women, Another Art History," and the third room, "Diaspora, Gaps in National History," exhibit works by female artists and those who emigrated abroad (to North Korea), who were once on the fringes of art history. Representative works include Park Rae-hyun's "Early Morning" and Yi Kwae-deok's "Self-portrait Wearing a Scarf." The fourth room, "Abstract Art, Challenges and Achievements in Globalization," introduces abstract art, which emerged in opposition to the academic style pursued by the Korean National Art Exhibition. Representative works include Yoo Young-kuk's "Mountain" and Kim Whanki's "Mountain." The final room, "Sculpture, Shaping and Carving the Times," displays the process by which sculpture expanded from "Korean-style ideas" to abstraction.
